Justine began dancing when she was 5, trying desperately to follow in her big sisters’ footsteps. She has studied every sort of dancing since as well as performing in numerous stage productions.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts (Theatre Performance) and a Licentiate level teacher’s qualification with Cecchetti Ballet Australia as well as an Affiliate membership with Australian Teachers of Dancing. Justine was head of Classical Ballet and Tap at MJ dance studio in South Australia before she was accorded the honour of the Directorship here at BBC in 2008. Justine is always studying for a new qualification because she believes we never stop learning!

Justine teaches 6 days a week and enjoys class with students from 2 years old, right through to tertiary level dancers and for her, there is no better place than a dance studio!

Stacey has been training in various styles of dancing including classical ballet, jazz, contemporary, tap and song and dance since the age of 9.  Stacey has also had a long association with gymnastics, training from age of 3 at kindergym.

At the age of 8 Stacey was selected to train 3 days a week at the Victorian Institute of Gymnastics in Melbourne. Stacey was coached for numerous years by our own Rowena Lynch at Uni Sports gymnasium in Ballarat. Stacey has also trained in Sports Acrobatics which lead her to compete in the National Sports Acrobatics competition in Homebush, Sydney in 1999. In 2009 Stacey started teaching at Ballarat Dance Centre and studying under Justine, she obtained her Cecchetti Associate teaching qualification and has now completed her Associate Diploma Cert IV in Dance Teaching & Management and Licentiate Teaching Qualification. Stacey has also completed all of her major Cecchetti Ballet Exams receiving Honours. Stacey has had performance experience in numerous musical theatre shows as well as dancing in eisteddfods all over the state.

In 2009 Stacey was awarded ‘Dancer of the Year’ at the Victorian Guild Awards for her performance in FAME with Ballarat Clarendon College. Stacey has also been working at Ballarat and Clarendon College teaching Dance, choreographing their Senior School Musical and working with their ‘Dance Elite Troupe’ choreographing routines for their Showcases.

Felicity has been involved with dance since the age of 8. She danced herself for 13 years and worked in her family’s dancewear shop while studying for a Bachelor of Arts (Police studies) with a major in psychology at Deakin. After graduating in 2000, Felicity left home to travel the world. Now back home in Ballarat, Felicity helps run a building company with her husband as well as working at BBC as Administration Director where she assists in the day to day administration involved in running the school. You will see her every Saturday at the studio collecting fees, performing eftpos transactions, answering questions and generally helping out and being a point of contact for all students, parents and teachers.

During 2017 Felicity is excited to join the BDC Troupe Competition Coaching Team.

Carole was awarded her fellowship in the I.S.T.D Cecchetti branch (London) in 1979 and in 1981 was appointed by the administrative council Australia as a ballet examiner. Students from beginner through to advanced as well as status levels are examined throughout Australia and overseas. 

Former Artistic Director of one of Australia’s leading Cecchetti Ballet Schools with former students working professionally in the Australian Ballet Company, Queensland Ballet, Sydney Dance Company, W.A Ballet Company, Singapore Dance Theatre, as well as several European, American and Canadian Ballet Companies whilst several students have been accepted into the Royal Ballet School, London, Australian Ballet School, VCASS, New Zealand Ballet School, Queensland Ballet School and PPY, WAAPA, Stuttgard and other full time institutions. 

Former students successes in both international and Australian Ballet competitions have been well documented over many years. As well as several students being awarded the Bronze, Silver and Gold Victorian Medal Awards and the Silver and Gold Australian Cecchetti Lucie Saranova Medal Awards. 

Carole’s students were awarded the inaugural Cecchetti encouragement awards, as well as the inaugural Australian Ballet School full time scholarship. Many students have been awarded numerous excellent awards and scholarships over the years as well as having students accepted each year into the Victorian Cecchetti Scholars Programme since its inception. 

Miss Oliver has trained and mentored many ballet teachers, some from her own school while others have come from the other ballet schools, specifically seeking her skills. The past few years Carole has conducted master classes mentoring ballet teachers. 

Miss Oliver’s passion for ballet is well known and her commitment to the technical training of students is unsurpassed and in 2015 was privileged and honoured to have been nominated and awarded The Order of Australia Medal in recognition for service to the performing arts in dance education. 

For the past few years Carole has been a member of the dance faculty at VCASS Cecchetti programme as well a freelance teaching and interstate holiday programmes. 
In 2019 she looks forward to working with the BDC Advanced 2 level students.

Rowena Lynch

Teaches: Head of Acrobatics

Qualifications: Bachelor of Applied Science in Human Movement with Major Studies in Sports Coaching, Advanced Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Coaching Accreditation, Further Qualifications in Men’s Gymnastics, General Gymnastics & Kindergym, Accredited Gymnastics Coaching Course Presenter and Assessor, Gymnastics Australia Intermediate qualification in Acrobatics 

After spending her childhood involved in gymnastics as a competitor Rowena has spent the last 23 years of her life involved in gymnastics as an administrator, coach, judge, educator and coaching course presenter. Rowena holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Human Movement with major studies in Sports Coaching. She is a National Coaching Course Presenter for Gymnastics Australia, an Advanced Women’s Artistic gymnastics coach and holds additional coaching qualifications in Men’s gymnastics and Kindergym. Rowena founded, was club co-ordinator & head coach at a large regional gymnastics centre for over a decade. The club produced numerous Victorian Champions and Victorian team members (coaches, judges and gymnasts) along with National Championship medalists. The club also delivered a wide variety of recreational and school programs to the region. In 2004 she was nominated for the Vicsport Regional Award for Sports Leadership for her development of gymnastics programs. Rowena has taught acrobatics to dancers in the past, currently lectures at the Victoria University and Federation University in Physical Education and Human Movement programs, and acts as an auditor of interstate gymnastics clubs for Gymnastics Australia in it’s club 10 Quality Assurance program.

Jordyn Chapman

Qualifications: Cert II in Dance with AusDance Australia

Jordyn has been dancing for over 12 years in a variety of styles and has been teaching for 3 years. 

She has completed her Certificate || in Dance with AusDance Australia and was nominated for a Ballarat Youth Award for Leadership in the Arts in 2017. 

Jordyn has performed around Ballarat in both theatre and dance, and in 2017 was a part of the core dancers in the Victorian State School Spectacular which performed at Hisense Arena and is her proudest achievement. 

She is excited to be a part of the BDC family.

Sophie Grima

Teaches: Classical Ballet, competition coaching

Sophie commenced at BDC at age 4 undertaking various styles of dance including classical, contemporary, jazz, limber and song and dance. 

She completed all of her Cecchetti Classical training including major examinations to Advanced 2 level under the guidance of Miss Justine Morris. 

Sophie was a Cecchetti scholar for 5 years from 2013 – 2017 and was also the Winner of the Cecchetti Victorian William Carse Award and Victorian Cecchetti Bronze Medal Winner. 

Having competed extensively at eisteddfods throughout Victoria as well as competing at the Sydney Eisteddfod where she had great schuss. 

In 2017, Sophie completed VET Dance at Ballarat Clarendon College and was selected as a Top Class Performer at the Melbourne Recital Centre. Additionally, she completed VCE Dance in 2018 and was award perfect scores for both her technique and composition pieces and has again been selected to perform as part of Top Class 2018. 

Sophie is undertaking a Bachelor of Laws/Business in 2019 at Swinburne University and is very excited about continuing her long association with Ballarat Dance Centre in a teaching capacity in 2019.
